Last week I heard a local morning show discussing "Does your hair get in the way of your workout?" Since I am officially addicted to the Dry Bar, a place in LA that blow dries your hair, my answer is ABSOLUTELY!!
When you pay to have your hair done, you want to maximize the good hair days as long as possible. There are tricks that do help and here are a few I've learned: Dry Shampoo is the best kept secret and definitely extends the good hair days. You just spray it on the roots after your workout, brush it through, and it absorbs excess oil.
Then, just use your curling iron or straightener and you're good to go. A few other key steps: if your hair is wavy, curly or you have side swept bangs, you can twist and pin using bobby pins. Shout out to my friend with gorgeous hair, Tina Kalayjian, who showed me that trick. It made a huge difference for me. You can also use silk or satin scarves. You keep them on afterwards and hold the blow drier up to them on a cool setting.
You can also add a heat protector to the hairline. Also good for wavy or curly hair is a low pony tail or a variety of braids. For straight hair use the low bun and run the straightener thru right after. None of us need another excuse to skip the workout. In fact, this is such an issue that even the US Surgeon General, Dr Regina Benjamin has been criticized for her comments on the topic. Find a solution that works for you and stay motivated to keep exercising.
