With Gwyneth Paltrow and Eva Longoria having published cook books in the last couple of years, it’s really triggered my taste buds to do more cooking at home. I’ve been taking lessons with my aunt, who is an amazing cook, and I’ve even retained the help of professional chef’s to learn technique. It’s definitely become a new hobby.
Whether it’s an at home lesson or in a professional kitchen, the one thing I’ve learned for sure is how important the right tools can be. From knives to pots and pans, the right tools can make a boat load of difference.
The most recent meal I learned how to prepare involved slicing up a ton of potatoes. Cutting down the time on prep work always helps, so when I was introduced to a Mandoline, I was hooked. Mandoline’s are an upright utensil used for slicing and cutting.

This nifty gadget made slicing all those potatoes almost FUN! It makes the perfect slice every time and you can even decide the thickness of your slice. It’s great to julienne and can come in handing when whipping up a quick appetizer, like, Mozzarella Caprese – Sliced Tomatoes, Sliced Mozzarella, Basil, and Olive Oil. YUM!
I’m a fan of the OXO Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer. It’s sturdy, easy to clean, and comes with four additional blades which store safely on the board . It folds down, so it’s not too bulky to store; and the turn knob on the side of the board makes it easy to figure out the thickness of your slice. Slice up perfect every time with the help of a Mandoline! Bon a petit.
