Karmin is back with a brand new single, “Acapella,” and on Friday night, the duo performed it live for the very first time at the Pick Your Purse Party, which was hosted by On Air with Ryan Seacrest‘s very own Ellen K. and Brad Goreski at the Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Lead singer Amy Heidemann explained to the crowd that she and Nick Noonan were inspired to write it after watching Pitch Perfect.
In the movie, Anna Kendrick‘s character plays the cups and her performance reminded them of their early days posting videos on YouTube.
“We thought there is not a song on pop radio called ‘Acapella,’” Amy said. “We were like, ‘How can we spin it?’ It’s sort of an independence anthem, like, If you can DIY, you can do it DIA … you can do it A cappella.”
“Acapella” will appear on Karmin’s debut full-length album, due later this year. Until then, they’ll be on the road opening for The Jonas Brothers.
