Have you been hearing about the latest healthy food alert....chia seeds?  It's showing up in all kinds of drinks, including smoothies, and you can even sprinkle it on food.  Dr. Oz, Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Andrew Weil all swear by these little seeds, so let's find out what they can do for us.
The chia seed is exceptionally nutritious with high levels of Omega 3, fiber, protein, calcium, iron, probiotics, magnesium and more. By itself, the seed is flavorless and when you add water it becomes a gel-like substance. You can then add all kinds of ingredients for flavor and make it delicious.
It's also used for weight loss because they fill you up and keep your digestion healthy. The little healthy seeds have been around for thousands of years...even the Aztecs were big fansThey used them for preventing infections and to promote healing. The seeds were even offered to the gods in their religious rituals.  My favorite way to incorporate chia into my diet is the delicious GT's Kombuca with chia!!
Here is quick and easy recipe: Raw Chia Porridge
1/4 cup chia seeds
2 cups water
Directions: Pour chia seeds into glass bowl then cover w/water and stir.  Let stand for twenty minutes, stirring occasionally.  Once the mixture reaches a light, gel-like consistency it's ready!  You definitely need to add something for flavor: mango, berries, apples, kiwis, bananas, pineapple, walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, cinnamon, maple syrup, clove or nutmeg. All work well with chia.  ENJOY!!
