LifeStream is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) comprehensive blood center serving more than 80 medical facilities in Southern California. Based on the need for a readily available blood supply, LifeStream was established by the medical societies of San Bernardino and Riverside counties and has been helping to save lives by connecting donors and patients through the gift of blood since June 19, 1951.

Healthy volunteer blood donors are needed for surgery and trauma patients, transplant recipients, premature infants and cancer patients. To meet emergency and ongoing patient need, LifeStream must receive at least 500 donations daily in order to support 175,000 transfusions annually. Multiple blood drives are held daily at business sites, churches, government agencies, high schools, colleges and civic organizations. In addition, LifeStream operates four donor centers located in San Bernardino, Riverside, Ontario and Victorville. Blood components are stored and distributed from LifeStream facilities in San Bernardino, Placentia, and Victorville.

Cooking for a Change is a national cooking competition that challenges teams of high school culinary students to create menu items that are not only healthy, but also meets U.S.D.A. guidelines and the budgetary constraints (about $1) that School Food Services programs across the country schools face today.

Before participating in the national competition, LAUSD must hold its own District wide competition among all interested culinary schools and students. We’re aiming to hold this event on Thursday, January 31, 2013. The winning team from the District wide competition would then move on to the national competition for an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC in May 2013. Along with the honor, the winning team’s menu will be served at all LAUSD schools during the 2013-2014 school year and there is a chance that it could also be served at the cafeteria of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Today, on the planet, a billion women – one of every three women on the planet – will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, and friends violated. V-Day REFUSES to stand by as more than a billion women experience violence.

On February 14th, 2013, V-Day's 15th Anniversary, we are inviting one billion women and those who love them to walk out, DANCE, RISE UP, AND DEMAND an end to this violence. Stage a rising in your community, office, college, or school. Organize a flash mob at a landmark building/site, in the streets or in a nearby mall. Have a dance party, produce a theatrical event, march in your streets, protest, strike, dance and above all RISE.
