ON THIS WEEK'S SHOW...
First 5 LA is a unique child-advocacy organization created by California voters
to invest tobacco tax revenues in programs for improving the lives of children
in Los Angeles County, from prenatal through age 5. Since 1998, we have
invested more than one billion dollars in grants and programs to champion the
health, education, and safety causes concerning young children and
families. Our vision is to create a future throughout our communities
where all young children are born healthy and raised in a loving and nurturing
environment so that they grow up healthy, are eager to learn, and reach their
First 5 LA’s mission is to make significant and measurable progress towards our
vision by increasing the number of children from the prenatal stage through age
5 who are physically and emotionally healthy, safe, and ready to
learn. We accomplish our mission by partnering with communities and
families in Los Angeles County to forward our goals in the areas of Early
Learning, Health, and Safe Children and Families.

Baby2Baby supplies Los Angeles families in need with essential baby gear and clothing for their children 0-4 years old. We distribute new and gently used items through a network of community based organizations
Mission Statement :
Baby2Baby distributes your donated new and gently used items through a network of community-based organizations that serve the city of Los Angeles. "We also raise money to purchase new items for them that often cannot be handed down due to important health and safety regulations." These organizations help families living in poverty who are trying to overcome issues of homelessness, domestic violence, drug abuse, teen pregnancy and family preservation. By supplying these agencies and the people they help with the most basic needs, we hope to alleviate some of their burden so they can focus on achieving their goals. It is important to us that donations do not remain on our shelves, but find their way to the Los Angeles families that need them. For this reason, Baby2Baby hosts "open houses." Additional organizations are invited to our space to collect excess inventory items for their clients. These items generally include clothing, toys and books.

The City Project is making California a better place to live, learn, work, and play, with equal justice, democracy, and livability for all.
The mission of The City Project is to achieve equal justice, democracy, and livability for all. "We carry out our mission by influencing the investment of public resources to achieve results that are equitable, enhance human health and the environment, and promote economic vitality for all communities. Focusing on parks and recreation, playgrounds, schools, health, and transit, we help bring people together to define the kind of community where they want to live and raise children. The City Project works with diverse coalitions in strategic campaigns to shape public policy and law, and to serve the needs of the community as defined by the community."
