Cheech Marin Opens Chicano Art & Culture Center In Riverside

Legendary comedian and actor Cheech Marin has opened up a museum in Riverside that will have the largest collection of Chicano art in the world.

"The Chicao/x community has been waiting far too long for a space like this. Our community has been central in building this region, our state and the country," said the center's artistic director, Maria Esther Fernandez. The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art and Culture will be open to the pubic starting Saturday, June 18th at 10am and this week the city and civic leaders gifted Cheech with a key to the city.

The 16,420 square-foot renovated space will have around 700 paintings, drawings and sculptures that Cheech has been collecting for over the past four decades. The center will also have a touring exhibition from the collection of work of artists and brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre, community art exhibit, video multi-person room and an education studio.
