Catalina Boat Crash

TWO HARBORS (CNS) - Two people on a sailboat suffered minor injuries, and a third escaped injury, as their vessel ran aground today at Catalina Island.

The sailboat ran into rocks off Isthmus Cove, near the settlement of Two Harbors, about 12 miles northwest of Avalon and 27 miles south of Long Beach.

A distress call was received at 4:50 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett. Two people aboard the boat were found with minor injuries, Pickett said.

The third person was able to leave the sailboat and was walking, seeking help. It was not immediately known if that person suffered any injuries, according to a county fire dispatcher.

County firefighters cleared the scene at 6:30 a.m., he said.
