LA PUENTE (CNS) - A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy in La Puente Friday shot a man who was allegedly armed with a metal paint roller, authorities said.

The man, about 40 to 45 years old, was listed in stable condition at a hospital, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The shooting was reported at 1:25 a.m., and deputies responded to the 600 block of Willow Avenue and East Temple Avenue, homicide Lt. Michael Gomez said.

Deputies were dispatched in response to a family disturbance call and arrived to see the suspect outside his residence arguing with family members.

He allegedly armed himself with a metal paint roller when deputies tried to detain him. Deputies ordered him several times to drop the item.

"They deployed pepper spray but were still unsuccessful in gaining compliance. As the suspect raised the weapon towards the deputy, a deputy- involved shooting occurred," according to a news statement.

No other injuries were reported.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
